Chamaecyparis Nootkatensis "Van Den Aker" is one of the most recognized and desired of all conifer clones. Few people know what it is called but most will recognize the shape and wish that they had several. They typically are at a loss for words when they try to describe it. Inspirational is the way it makes one feel. Van Den Aker is large and fast growing but narrow and very graceful. A towering artistic spire that still neatly occupies a tight spot. Imagine that! A big tree that is excellent even for today's many small gardens. It grows in a very narrow open form with few branches. The foliage hangs and weeps in streamers. 15' in ten years. Very adaptable across the country in Usda Zones 5-9. Thrives in variable types of light. It might like part sun in the hotter southern areas. A true conifer icon.
