White Spruce or Picea Glauca is a well known species and is quite hardy. It is the source for many wonderful clones with many dwarf and miniatures among them. They often sport foliage in magical shades of blue to grey or silver. The species Glauca is similar in many ways to the familiar Picea Pungens or Colorado Blue spruce and it is easy to confuse them. P. Glauca ‘Echinaformis’ is one of those very miniature clones. It is a dense bun of tight blue foliage that only grows about an inch or perhaps less per year. It may become a 1’ wide mound or squatty cone after many years. It needs good sun and is an Ideal rock garden or container plant. The dense short spring growth is a blue green color that changes to steel blue as the year progresses. Hardy to USDA Zone 3.
