COLLECTORS! Acer Palmatum "Ruby stars" is one of the smallest Japanese Maples. It is a true Dwarf and was selected from seed by the late Japanese Maple expert Harry Olson. Although it appears to be interchangeable with the clone Beni Hoshi and references may call it the same plant it is not and we keep them separate. Ruby Stars grows at a rate of just 2 or 3 inches a year and will form a compact upright small tree of great character. It is just charming! Winter exposes a stubby trunk and a dense network of tiny stems. It produces a dense covering of red leaves in the spring that slowly bronze in summer's heat. In late summer it pushes new red shoots and leaves that contrast wonderfully against the bronzed older leaves. Thus the name Ruby Stars. It enjoys good sun.
