Abies Koreana “Ice Breaker” is a miniature form of Korean fir with very large character. This clone is a witches broom discovered on an A. Koreana "Horstman’s Silberlocke" in Germany. A plant with this kind of comport only comes along rarely and it always leaves me humble. It grows about an inch a year and forms a squat mass of short stems and buds cloaked in bright snow white needles that completely curl around the stem. There is a disturbingly alien beauty to this plant. There is that touch of oddness in a great beauty that goes beyond uncommon but stops short of freak. It gets about 10” tall and 12-15” wide in ten years. Needs good sun and is hardy to USDA Zone 4.
